I mean, I'm not a hardcore shipper, nor am I involved in the online fandoms, but it occurred to me that the Fire Emblem video game series is the best source ever for shipping. Every game boasts a huge cast of attractive anime characters of varying ages, all with vivid personalities, and the game itself allows you to make all your crackpairing choices come true, canon be darned. The only problem is that they keep releasing new games, with a new continuity starting every other game, so good luck finding new fanfic for Hector/Florina when they haven't appeared since 2003. Hmph.

(And no, I did not spend my lunch hour today reading Hector/Florina fic thanks to a TVTropes reference. I'm too cool for Florina ships.)

That is a pretty good-looking game, and yeah, given enough characters with unique personalities and moderate levels of attractiveness shipping is going to be pretty rampant.

I should probably look into the online fandom, but I'm afraid my naive view of the shipping scene may be tarnished by scathing wars between Lyn/Eliwood and Lyn/Hector fans. (Never mind that there are canonical hints that she married Rath. No one likes Rath.)

If you ever do look into the series, I'd advocate getting a hold of the original GBA games, especially the first. I like the charm of the sprite graphics more than the 3D stuff they do now. If you have a Wii, though, it can play this game that was pretty good (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_Emblem:_Path_of_Radiance). The sequel was panned, though.
